• Acer Australia aims to plant one million trees over the next two years
• Acer are focused on increasing their focus on becoming better corporate citizens
• Acer ranked within the top 10 Greenest Electronic Companies
Sydney, Australia 19th August, 2009 – Acer Computer Australia have today announced their largest ever environment mission. The mission entails the planting of one million trees by 2011.
The mission is part of Acer’s increasing efforts to become better corporate citizens. These efforts have recently been recognised in the 2009 Guide to Greener Electronics published by Greenpeace. This guide highlights Acer move up to the 9th ranking in the most environmental aware electronic companies worldwide. Acer ranks above its strongest direct competitors.
This move is due to the continual research and development in producing more environmental products, responsible deposing of waste and proactive moves to plant more trees. Since 2008 Acer has successfully planted more than 45,673 trees, which equates to offsetting more than 7,612 tonnes of carbon dioxide over thier lifetime.
“Our goal now is pure and simple; we want to accelerate our tree plantation process. Acer plan to plant a million trees within the next two years” quotes Nigel Gore, General Manager – Product Division, Acer Computer Australia.
“Scientists have warned us that the current carbon emissions levels are causing global warming. The issue of climate change is real, not only for our generation but also for the generations to come,” Gore continues.
“At Acer we don’t pretend we can solve the world’s problems, but by taking the position of a corporate citizen we aim to make a positive impact and a small contribution to the environment, Acer is interest in reducing carbon emissions, in particular those emitted by computing devices.” Gore concludes.
To implement the mission, for every purchase of a system in the August and September Acer’s Business Buyers Guide Acer will plant up to ten trees in Australia.
